Biography

​​Colin J.A. Oldberg is the former Principal Trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared as Guest Principal Trumpet with the St. Louis Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Colorado. In addition, he has had the honor to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Grand Tetons Festival Orchestra, the Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and as an inaugural member of the YouTube Symphony. As a frequent substitute for the Chicago Symphony, Colin performed under the batons of Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, and Riccardo Muti. Colin can be heard in Maestro Muti’s first recording as Music Director with the Chicago Symphony of Verdi’s Requiem, which went on to win a Grammy in 2010.  Colin taught trumpet at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts and continues to teach trumpeters of all ages.  He holds a Bachelor of Music (’09) and Master of Music (’10) from Northwestern University. He also holds a Juris Doctorate (’17) from the University of Colorado and currently clerks for Judge Anthony J. Navarro on the Colorado Court of Appeals.
