Biography

Derek McDonald resides in Boulder, CO and is principal trumpet of Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, a member of the trumpet section of Colorado Ballet Orchestra. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in trumpet performance from the Pennsylvania State University, where he studied under John Daniel and Dr. Langston J. Fitzgerald III. He earned a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from the UC-Boulder, where he studied with and was a graduate. He performed with The Flatirons Brass Quintet, being a prize winner and finalist at the National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2009. He served as a guest artist in residence at Renmin University in Beijing with the Flatirons Brass Quintet in 2011, where he gave master classes and performed a concert.
